Bike unbuild TODAY

Keen to learn how to take a bike apart?

This afternoon around 2pm we will be getting together at the mechanical tempest, 128 Abel smith st to disassemble some bikes, sand down the paint and then repaint them to match our fleet of red and yellow Wunderbikes.
Anyone who wants to learn is welcome to come by, expect to get a little dirty....
After we've stripped the bikes down we will take them to Aro park to be painted.

Moving forward

It's been a mostly excellent week for our budding project. Apart from having to switch some bikes around and the assembling of bicycles taking a wee bit longer than we anticipated we've had some great things happen.
-we had over 1000 people visit our facebook page this week!
-we got a new bike donated to the project
-we met with Wellington Timebank and we will be getting involved with them (more info to come)

As far as some excellent up coming stuff, keep your eyes peeled for an article in the valley voice about Wunderbike, should be around at the start of December.
We are also gearing up to meet with people from Capital Daily magazine so that will be another place to read up on what's going on with your favorite bike sharing program....

We are still in need of donated lights, locks and helmets so if you have anything laying around that you'd like to see reused, drop those items off at the Aro valley community centre or at 128 Abel Smith Street.

And one last little tid bit...we now have an email address. That's right, it's serious now.
If you have questions, feedback or if you are interested in getting involved in the project email us at wellingtonwunderbike@gmail.com

Check out the photos of our bike painting session. We chose three bikes to turn into Wunderbikes and spent the afternoon disassembling them and then repainting them in Aro Park.

Assembling the bike fleet

This Saturday, November 9th 2013 at 2pm we will be meeting at the Mechanical Tempest to pick your first lender bikes. We will disassemble them all and then bring them to Aro Park to paint them.

Anyone is welcome to come by and learn about bike painting or ask questions/give input

Getting things rolling

Wellington Wunderbikes is a program that was conceived by the Mechanical Tempest, Wellingtons's DIY Community Bike Shop and nurtured by the Aro Valley Community Centre.

It is the beginning of something wonderful and we need your help to make it happen.

So what is Wellington Wunderbike?
-It's a free bike lending program. Anyone can register to borrow one of 5 bicycles (which live at the Aro Valley Community Centre). The bike comes with a lock, helmet and lights. All we need from you is a small deposit. Once you've signed up you can use the bike for a quick errand, a day of casual riding or a weekend bike trip. It's yours to enjoy. When you are all done you can lock up the bike at the community centre so that someone else can make use of it.

How can you help?
-We are in need some supplies to get the program going. We are searching for extra bike lights, helmets or tools. If you have any of these things and you'd be willing to donate them please drop them off at the Aro Valley Community Centre (48 Aro Street) or at the Mechanical Tempest (128 Abel Smith Street) and clearly label it "Wunderbike."
-Get involved with the program. Message us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/wellingtonwunderbike) or stop by the community centre or the Mechanical Tempest. We'd love more input, ideas and enthusiasm for Wunderbike.
